breast uplift

A mastopexy procedure is a great way to regain your body confidence, giving you fuller and more youthful-looking breasts.

what are the benefits of a breast uplift?

Resizing, repositioning, and reshaping your breasts can transform how you look and feel, making exercise more comfortable and clothing fit better.
The benefits of a mastopexy include:

  • Younger looking breasts
  • Breasts are lifted and appear fuller
  • Naturally attractive breasts, with an improved contour
  • Nipples no longer point downwards
  • Clothes and swimwear appear more flattering
  • Ability to exercise
  • Boosted confidence

what are the different types of breast uplift?

There are several types of breast uplift. At The Levant Clinic we perform:

  • Anchor, wise pattern or inverted T mastopexy – the procedure may be appropriate if the breast is sagging substantially and you want to achieve a significant lift, reposition a low nipple and improve the breast shape.
  • Vertical scar or lollipop mastopexy – if you have medium-sized breasts and want them lifted and the nipple repositioned, a vertical scar (lollipop) procedure may be correct for you.
  • Periareolar, Benelli or doughnut mastopexy – this creates a higher breast in patients with relatively small breasts and minimal sagging. This type of breast uplift has the least amount of scarring. A breast augmentation may be performed alongside this technique to achieve the best aesthetic look.

Your four step journey

Your four step journey

your consultation

Our expert surgeons will answer your questions so you make the decision that’s right for you.

We understand that you will have many questions about breast uplift surgery and what we can achieve. So, your consultation with your surgeon is comprehensive and never rushed.

your surgeon will:

  • Review your medical history
  • Talk about your aims and expectations
  • Assess whether a breast uplift is suitable
  • Consider which technique they might use
  • Tell you about the potential risks and complications of a breast lift

you can expect:

  • An examination and measurement of your breasts
  • Your questions to be answered, including aftercare and recovery
  • Your surgeon to show you before and after photographs
  • A clinic letter detailing your discussion with your surgeon and surgical plan

You will also hear about our pioneering wound closure procedure where the surgeon doesn’t use a drain. It means you can immediately shower because the special dressings do not need to be changed for two weeks.

getting ready for your breast uplift

We have a warm, welcoming approach and look after you at every step.

pre-op assessments and advice

Before the procedure, we encourage you to ask any questions. Our preparation for your mastopexy involves:

  • A pre-op meeting with your cosmetic surgeon
  • Sending you instructions before you come in for your procedure
  • Arranging your pre-operative assessments, which include MRSA swabs
  • Providing medication advice – we will ask you to stop medications that increase the risk of bleeding, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and herbal medicines, two weeks before surgery. We will also give you advice regarding any other medications you are taking
  • Providing advice if you are a smoker or use a nicotine patch or gum. You must stop at least four weeks before and after the procedure because nicotine products can lead to a post-operative chest infection.

preparing for your hospital stay

Before your breast uplift:

  • You won’t eat or drink for six hours before your procedure, except clear water
  • Arrange for someone to pick you up from the hospital
  • Come to your appointment without makeup, jewellery, or perfume.

what to bring on the day:

  • Any medications you’re taking
  • Post-surgery support bra
  • Dressing gown and slippers
  • Something to read
  • Toiletries.

breast uplift surgery

We have a safety-first approach and only select cosmetic surgeons holding the FRCS (Plast) qualification.

at the hospital

Your breast uplift will take place in a CQC-registered hospital. Your surgical team will get you ready for your surgery:

  • Your surgeon will meet with you to answer any concerns you may have, take pre-operation photographs, and mark up your body ready for surgery.
  • You will also see your anaesthetic before the procedure and can ask questions regarding your general anaesthetic.

breast uplift – what happens?

A breast uplift usually takes about two hours to perform as a day case. However, you may need to stay overnight if you live alone or far away. We perform mastopexies under a general anaesthetic, with a local anaesthetic infiltration to make you comfortable after the procedure.

We offer three types of breast lift:

  • Anchor, wise pattern or inverted T mastopexy – The surgeon places the incision around the areola. The scar goes down the breast and along the inner creases of the breast where it is well hidden.
  • Vertical scar or lollipop mastopexy – This involves lifting the breast and repositioning the nipple. The technique gets its name from the scar’s shape, which looks like a lollipop, and the incision is shorter than other techniques.
  • Periareolar, Benelli or doughnut mastopexy – This involves an incision near the areola. A doughnut-shaped piece of tissue around the areola is removed and the surrounding tissue is sutured to the areola. This procedure is usually combined with a breast augmentation to achieve the best aesthetic look.

Your surgeon will apply dressings and place you in a post-op support bra, which our clinic will provide.

after your breast uplift

Everyone at The Levant Clinic is committed to delivering outstanding patient care.

getting home

We will put you at ease by giving you post-operative advice before you leave the hospital. It’s important for you to understand the aftercare you need and what to expect in your recovery process. Our guidance includes information about medication, physical activity, showering, the wearing of your post-operative bra, sleeping and any other relevant information your surgeon needs to tell you.

We recommend that a friend, family member, or taxi take you home when you leave the hospital, as you can’t drive.

outstanding aftercare

Your post-surgery aftercare is just as important to us as the procedure itself.

We offer full post-operative advice to support your recovery and we are always available if you need us.

  • You will remain under your surgeon’s direct care, with support from our dedicated team
  • We don’t pass you to a nurse for follow-up care
  • You will be given a 24/7 telephone number to call if you have any questions
  • Our team can put you in touch with your surgeon directly at any time.

recovery timeline

Although everyone is different, here’s a guide to breast uplift recovery:

same day
  • You’ll go home unless you live further afield
  • You can shower –a special wound closure technique, pioneered by our surgeons, means you can shower straight away.
first two weeks
  • Help with daily activities – You may experience some fatigue during your recovery, so it’s advisable to have someone assist you
  • You may notice some bruising, swelling and soreness, but we will encourage you to mobilise as much as possible
  • You’ll be back to work after 10-14 days, depending on your job.
two to six weeks
  • A follow-up appointment with your surgeon when your dressings will be removed at two weeks
  • Support bra – Continue wearing it apart from in the shower or bath
  • Stitches dissolve, so they won’t need to be removed
  • Driving – When you have stopped taking pain medication and can perform an emergency manoeuvre (stop) – usually around three weeks
  • Short-haul flights after four weeks.
six weeks and beyond
  • You can stop wearing your support bra
  • Back to normal activities, including exercise
  • Long-haul flights can be taken
  • Your breasts will start to look and feel more natural at 6-12 weeks
  • You’ll see the full results of your breast uplift at 9-12 months
  • Keep your scars out of direct sunlight for 12 months.

You can exercise six weeks after your breast uplift.

Most patients take 10-14 days to recover before returning to work, but this may be a little longer if your job involves manual labour.

You can start driving once you have stopped taking pain medication and can perform an emergency manoeuvre (stop), usually about three weeks after the procedure.

You’ll need a week’s grace for any travel. We advise waiting four weeks before boarding a plane – and up to six weeks for a long-haul flight.

You will see a difference in your breasts straight away, but it will take a few months for the swelling to settle and for your breasts to settle into their new size and shape. You can expect to see the full results of your breast lift after 9-12 months when the scars fade.

You will have scars after surgery, but they will fade gradually, and most will be hidden in the crease of your breast and around the areola.

before and after

“Surgery has changed my life. I’m so much more confident. I can wear more flattering clothes, even backless dresses and tops that show my figure. It’s wonderful not having to worry about wearing a bra sometimes.”

frequently asked questions

All operations involve some risk, but it’s relatively low in breast uplift surgery. Possible complications include slow healing of the T-junction, infection, bleeding, scarring, reduced sensation around the nipples, loss of nipple-areola complex, seroma and venous thromboembolism (VTE). Your surgeon will explain the risks and complications associated with your operation in more detail during the consultation.

At The Levant Clinic, our surgeons are accredited by the GMC. They have been selected for their high skills, years of cosmetic surgery experience and professional plastic surgery qualification – FRCS (Plast). We take the utmost care to ensure any risks are minimised.

We have partnered with Plim to offer tailored finance options that help you pay for your procedure – and we are clear about the costs of surgery at every stage.

Find out more about the finance options we offer.

In your initial consultation, you will have time to discuss your concerns, discover your options and consider which approach will be most suitable for you.

It is always a good idea to have a list of questions you may want to ask in advance. But we understand that there’s often much to discuss. So, if you forget to ask a question in the consultation, you can contact our dedicated team, who can return to your surgeon and get the answer. Questions you may want to consider are:

  • Is this procedure right for me?
  • What surgical technique is recommended for me?
  • How long a recovery period can I expect, and what kind of help will I need during my recovery?
  • What will my breast uplift look like over time?
  • What will I need to do to get the best results?
  • Do you have before and after photos I can look at for this procedure?

Studies have shown that breast uplifts do not usually interfere with breastfeeding unless you require a free nipple graft. If you are concerned about breastfeeding post-procedure, we recommend you speak to your surgeon.

Most breast uplift procedures are performed without an implant. The uplift itself can create a fuller and more youthful breast. However, if you are looking for a larger bust, an implant might be right for you. Your surgeon will discuss this with you during your consultation.

There are several reasons people might choose to have breast uplift surgery. You may be suitable for a mastopexy if you are experiencing any of the following:

  • Your breasts sag due to age, weight loss or pregnancy
  • Your nipples or areolas point downwards
  • You feel your areolas are too large
  • One of your breasts is lower than the other
  • You want your clothes to look more flattering
  • You want to be breast confident

Contact us today to discuss your options.
