Liposuction is an excellent way to achieve your dream body shape and effortlessly regain confidence.
The ten most popular reasons for having liposuction are:
To get the best results from liposuction, you need a highly skilled and experienced surgeon working with a team dedicated to outstanding aftercare – like ours at The Levant Clinic.
We prefer power-assisted liposuction (PAL) for its high-quality results and because it has fewer complications than Smart Lipo, Vaser or Vaser High-Def types of liposuction procedures.
Your first step before having liposuction is to meet one of our friendly, expert plastic surgeons who will make you feel at home during your consultation and answer your questions.
At The Levant Clinic we have an experienced support team, providing a direct link between you and your surgeon. You’ll receive a very personal service to make your liposuction experience as great as your body transformation.
Our preparation for your liposuction involves:

Your liposuction will take place in a CQC-registered hospital.
We favour power-assisted liposuction because it gives more consistent results with fewer contour abnormalities. Other techniques such as Vaser or ultrasound-assisted liposuction offer no further advantage, produce less consistent results, and can cause complications.
Power-assisted liposuction (PAL) involves inserting a thin metal tube (cannula) into the treated area and attaching it to a liposuction machine that sucks out the fat. Once your surgeon has removed the fat, they drain the site of blood and fluid, stitch it up, apply dressings and fit a compression bandage or support garment.
Liposuction usually takes from one to three hours, depending on how much fat your surgeon removes and the area treated. If you have chosen either liposuction or liposculpture, you’re most likely to go home the same day. However, liposuction procedures might occasionally require a one-night stay in the hospital.
With liposculpture, less volume of fat is removed than liposuction. However, the surgeon may suggest liposculpture when you desire more defined contours.
At the procedure’s end, your surgeon will apply dressings and place you in a support (compression) garment.
We will put you at ease by giving you post-operative advice before you leave the hospital. You’ll be discharged the day after your procedure and we recommend that a friend or family member takes you home, as you won’t be able to drive.
You can exercise six weeks after your liposuction.
Most patients take two weeks to recover before returning to work, but this may be a little longer if your job involves manual labour.
You should wear your post-op support garment for six weeks, apart from in the shower or bath.
You can start driving once you have stopped taking pain medication and can perform an emergency manoeuvre (stop), usually about two weeks after the procedure.
You’ll need a week’s grace for any travel. We advise waiting four weeks before boarding a plane – and up to six weeks for a long-haul flight.
Most patients can see excellent results from liposuction after six weeks – with the best results visible between 6-12 months once the initial bruising and swelling has diminished.
The scarring is minimal and a maximum of 5mm in length. In addition, they fade excellently with time.
“The disproportionate amount of fat on my back after my previous surgery made me feel horrible. And while at 55, my expectation was never to have the body of a 20-year-old again, this surgery has made me feel so confident.”

In your initial consultation, you will have time to discuss your concerns and consider your options and the most suitable approach for you.
It is always advisable to create your list of questions before the consultation. But it’s easy to forget something you wanted to ask when there’s so much to cover. If you do, you can contact our dedicated team, who can return to your surgeon and get your answer. Questions you may want to consider are:
Some surgeons believe that energy-based liposuction devices dissipate heat to tighten skin, but nothing has shown this to be the case. In our surgeons’ views, nothing compares to a skilful PAL.
Liposuction is relatively low risk, but there are possible complications.
Possible complications include bleeding beneath the skin (haematoma), numbness, infection, seroma (fluid collection) and venous thromboembolism (VTE). Your surgeon will explain the risks and complications of your operation in more detail during the consultation.
At The Levant Clinic, all our surgeons are accredited by the General Medical Council (GMC) and hold the FCRS (Plast) qualification. We take every care to ensure any complications are minimised.
No, we have found that the operation time with the new energy-based liposuction techniques can be longer.
A shorter general anaesthetic, achieved with PAL, is best to improve patient recovery and reduce the risks and complications that may happen with any surgical procedure.
When comparing energy-based devices to PAL, our surgeons have found no difference in bruising, swelling, post-procedure pain or recovery times.
Recovery time can vary between patients but is mostly dependant on the amount of fat extracted. Liposuction is minimally invasive, but the more fat removed, the longer the recovery time is likely to be.
These latest devices use energy-based lipolysis or fat-melting instead of suction to remove fat deposits and reduce the possibility of bruising caused by other methods.
However, our surgeons were unimpressed by the trials, which found that such devices can lead to skin burns, hardening (fat necrosis), unevenness and patient disappointment with the outcome compared to PAL.
There is no substantial proof that bruising is reduced, either. However, our highly skilled surgeons always minimise bruises, lessen pain and encourage healing.
Before PAL’s introduction in 1998, surgeons had to physically move cannulas to and fro to suction out body fat. It was tiring for the surgeon and often left some fat in place.
Using PAL’s fast-vibrating cannulas instead of a traditional energy-based cannula reduces the effort it takes to suck out the fat, and it doesn’t use heat. As a result, PAL makes the process faster, more efficient and gentler for the patient, and more fat can be removed.
PAL also allows surgeons to sculpt body areas like the chest and stomach, which is particularly beneficial for men who want better contours.
Everyone is different, so the amount extracted varies per patient. However, six litres are the most fat we can remove in one procedure.
Liposuction can be a life enhancing decision, but it’s not suitable for everyone.
Liposuction may help if:
Liposuction is not a ‘weight loss’ procedure – results are purely cosmetic. So, if you are overweight and looking for a quick fix weight-loss solution, then liposuction may not be the right procedure for you.
