your consultation

Our expert surgeons will answer your questions so you make the decision that’s right for you.

At The Levant Clinic, we understand that time can be tight, so we book your appointments with your busy lifestyle in mind. Our surgeons put you at ease during the consultation, so you’ll feel relaxed when you’re with us. You will also hear about our pioneering wound closure technique, where the surgeon doesn’t use a drain. It means you can immediately shower, and the special dressings do not need to be changed for two weeks.

your surgeon will:

  • Review your medical history
  • Discuss your aims and expectations
  • Assess whether a mummy makeover is suitable for you
  • Talk through which technique they will use
  • Tell you about the potential risks and complications of a mummy makeover

you can expect:

  • An examination of your tummy, including the degree of muscle split (divarication) and presence of any hernias
  • An examination and measurement of your breasts
  • Your questions to be answered, including aftercare and the recovery process
  • Our surgeon to show you before and after photographs of their work
  • A clinic letter detailing your discussion with our surgeon and surgical plan
  • To leave the consultation feeling better informed to help you decide if a mummy makeover is correct for you.

getting ready for your mummy makeover

We have a warm, welcoming approach and look after you every step of the way.

pre-op assessments and advice

Your pre-op meeting is gives you the chance to ask as many questions as you like about your mummy makeover surgery and what we can achieve. Our team provides a direct link to your surgeon, and we are here to make your mummy makeover experience as successful as your body transformation.

Our preparation for your mummy makeover involves:

  • A pre-op meeting with your plastic surgeon
  • Sending you all the information you need in the lead-up to your procedure. Arranging your pre-operative assessments, which include methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus swabs
  • Providing medication advice – we will ask you to stop medications that increase the risk of bleeding, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and herbal medicines, two weeks before surgery. We will also advise you regarding any other medications you are taking
  • Advice if you are a smoker or use a nicotine patch or gum. You must stop smoking at least four weeks before and after the procedure because nicotine products can lead to a post-operative chest infection.

preparing for your hospital stay

  • You won’t be able to eat or drink for about six hours before your mummy makeover.
  • You can however, have a small glass of water up to two hours before your admission time, but it must not include any juice, cordial or flavouring.
  • You’ll need to plan your journey home from the hospital, as you won’t be able to drive.
  • We suggest that you don’t wear makeup, jewellery or perfume.

what to bring with you on the day:

  • Any medications you’re taking
  • Compression garment and post-surgery support bra
  • Dressing gown and slippers
  • Something to read
  • Toiletries.

mummy makeover surgery

We have a safety-first approach and only select the best cosmetic surgeons.

at the hospital

Your mummy makeover will take place in a CQC-registered hospital. Your surgical team will get you ready for your surgery.

  • Your surgeon will spend time with you before your mummy makeover, putting you at ease by answering any questions you may have. Pre-operation photographs will be taken, and your breasts and body will be marked up ready for surgery.
  • You will also see your anaesthetist before the procedure and can ask questions regarding your general anaesthetic.

mummy makeover – what happens?

A mummy makeover is performed under a general anaesthetic with added local anaesthetic for your comfort and safety. The procedure takes two to three hours and you’ll stay in hospital overnight. Of course, every person and surgery is different, but this is a general overview of what will happen:

  • Tummy tuck – your surgeon removes excess skin and fat around your tummy and repairs any hernias and muscle splits (divarication). Your belly button will be sculpted to give you a new shape and position.
  • Breast augmentation – silicone implants are inserted into the breast through a short scar hidden under the breast’s crease.
  • Breast uplift – your surgeon will remove excess skin and some breast tissue. The breasts are then lifted and tightened to a flattering position. They may relocate the nipples and reduce areolas to improve their projection.
  • Liposuction – the surgeon inserts a thin metal tube (cannula) into the treated area, and a liposuction machine sucks out the fat.

One of our world-renowned surgeons, Mr Jallali, has developed a wound closure technique, so you can shower the same day. Next, our surgeons apply dressings and place you in a support (compression) garment and post-op bra. Following the procedure, you will spend some time in the recovery suite before being taken back to your hospital room.

getting home

We will put you at ease by giving you post-operative advice before leaving the hospital. You must understand the aftercare you need and what to expect in your recovery process. Our guidance includes medication information, physical activity, showering, wearing your post-operative bra and compression garment, sleeping and any other relevant information your surgeon needs to tell you. You’ll be discharged the day after your procedure and we recommend that a friend or family member takes you home, as you won’t be able to drive.

recovery timeline

Recovery after a mummy makeover depends on the combination of procedures you have chosen and you as an individual. We will give you tailored advice regarding your aftercare and recovery, but we have outlined a general guide to give you an idea of what to expect:
same day
  • You will stay in the hospital overnight
  • You can shower – Our special wound closure technique that means you can shower straight away
  • Compression garment and support bra – depending on your procedure, you may need to wear these for six weeks, except in the shower.
following day
  • You’ll be discharged from the hospital
  • Mobilise as much as you can.
first two weeks
  • Your drain will be removed three-five days after your surgery
  • It is usual to feel sore and tender after your mummy makeover, but the pain relief we prescribe will reduce discomfort
  • You’ll have some swelling and bruising
  • You should sleep on your back with your head elevated as this will help your recovery
  • We encourage you to mobilise as much as possible but suggest you avoid strenuous activity
  • You may feel more tired than usual, so it’s advisable to have someone assist you
  • You may want to take two weeks to recuperate before returning to work, but this may be a little longer if your job involves manual labour
  • A follow-up appointment with your surgeon.
two weeks and beyond
  • Mummy makeovers will usually take two weeks to heal, and you can expect some residual bruising
  • Your stitches will dissolve
  • You can stop wearing your compression garment and support bra after six weeks
  • You can return to driving when you have stopped taking pain medication and can perform an emergency manoeuvre (stop), usually from two weeks post-op
  • Short-haul flights can be taken after four weeks
  • Back to normal activities, including exercise at six weeks
  • Long-haul flight at six weeks
  • Your breasts and tummy will start to look and feel more natural at 6-12 weeks
  • You will notice a difference immediately but will see full results from 3-6 months
  • Keep scars out of direct sunlight for 12 months.

You can exercise six weeks after your mummy makeover.

Most patients take two weeks to recover before returning to work, but this may be a little longer if your job involves manual labour.

You should wear the compression garment and support bra for six weeks, apart from in the shower or bath.

You can start driving once you have stopped taking pain medication and can perform an emergency manoeuvre (stop), usually about two weeks after the procedure.

You’ll need a week’s grace for any travel. We advise waiting four weeks before boarding a plane – and up to six weeks for a long-haul flight.

You’ll notice a difference immediately, but as your bruising and swelling reduce in the following weeks, the results will continue to improve. Your breasts will be fuller and more youthful, and your tummy will be flatter, with a more contoured shape. Your body will appear younger and firmer and boost your confidence.

You will have scars after surgery, but they will fade gradually over the first year. Breast scars are mostly hidden in the crease of your breast and around the areola. We position tummy tuck scars within or below the bikini line.

before & After

“I believe it was a blessing in disguise that I had to cancel my previous surgeries because I found the perfect surgeon who really can deliver. I will recommend Mr Jallali to all my friends and family and am now planning to undergo my second surgery with him.”

frequently asked questions

All operations involve some risk, but it’s relatively low in mummy makeover surgery.

There are possible complications with mummy makeover surgery. They include infection, bleeding, abnormal scarring, seroma (fluid collection), loss of umbilicus, numbness and venous thromboembolism (VTE). Occasionally some excess skin and fat remain at the corners of the scars, referred to as ‘dog ears’. Our surgeons can remove these under local anaesthetic when the scar has healed. Your surgeon will explain the risks and complications associated with your operation in more detail during the consultation.

At The Levant Clinic, all our surgeons are accredited by the GMC and hold the FCRS (Plast) qualification. We take the utmost care to ensure any risks are minimised.

We have partnered with Plim to offer tailored finance options that help you pay for your procedure – and we are clear about the costs of surgery at every stage.

In your first consultation, we learn about your goals and answer your questions. After that, you will have time to discuss your concerns, find your options and consider which of the mummy makeover procedures are most suitable.

It is always a good idea to have a list of questions you may want to ask in advance. But we understand that there’s often much to discuss, so if you forget to ask about something in the consultation, you can contact the Levant team, who can return to your surgeon and get the answer.

Questions you may want to consider are:

  • What surgical technique do you recommend?

  • How can I expect my mummy makeover to look over time?
  • What will I need to do to get the best results?
  • Do you have before and after photos I can look at for this procedure?
