  • Lower eyelid surgery is surgery to remove eye bags under the eye. It takes one-and-a-half to two hours to perform, and you can go home the same day. While your surgeon can carry out this surgery under local anaesthetic, we often recommend it be carried out under general anaesthetic to achieve the best results. Your surgeon will make a small incision along the lower lash line, remove excess fat, reshape the skin and remove excess fat.
  • Upper and lower blepharoplasties combined provide eyelid reshaping, under-eye bag, and skin removal. Most clients have upper and lower eyelid correction at the same time. You’re likely to stay in the hospital overnight, and in most cases, we’ll do your surgery under general anaesthetic.

Eyelid and eye bag surgery are relatively low risk when being carried out by a qualified plastic surgeon, but there are possible complications.

With an upper blepharoplasty, most patients find it difficult to close their eyes for the first few days. With both upper and lower eyelid surgery, you may experience dry or watery eyes for up to three months after your procedure.

Further complications include bleeding beneath the skin (haematoma), numbness, infection and venous thromboembolism (VTE). Rare complications include drooping of the lower eyelid (ectropion) and vision loss. Your surgeon will explain the risks and complications associated with your operation in more detail during the consultation.
